You may have seen a group walk up, greet somebody at the door and disappear toward a table. Welcome to a promoter-driven nightlife economy. Some promoters coordinate guest lists, some host groups, and some help venues fill tables.
Being invited does not automatically mean a free night, guaranteed entry or any obligation to stay. Ask who is hosting, what is included and when entry closes. Nobody owes a promoter their evening.
